Thinking about chasing waves in Taghazout, Morocco?
Smart move — with year-round sunshine, world-class right-hand point breaks and a laid-back surf-camp vibe, Morocco is one of the best surf destinations on the planet. But what you pack for your surf trip here can make a serious difference in how comfortable (and stylish) you feel, especially as conditions change through the seasons.
After years of welcoming surfers from all over the world at Sunshine Surf Morocco, here’s our inside guide to what you should bring depending on when you’re travelling.
From golden sunrises over the Atlantic to mint-tea sunsets on rooftop terraces, a surf trip to Taghazout is more than just a holiday — it’s a whole vibe. Whether you’re dreaming of your first green wave or chasing smooth Moroccan point-break perfection, this little fishing village has become the beating heart of North Africa’s surf scene.
But depending on when you come, packing the right essentials can make or break your trip — because Morocco serves everything from icy dawn patrols to tropical-feeling bikini surfs. To help you arrive prepared (and looking like you’ve done this before), here’s our month-by-month breakdown of what to bring.
January – March (Winter Surf Season)
The surf is pumping, the crowds are thinner, and the vibe is magical — but the Atlantic water is chilly and mornings are fresh.
Bring:
- A good 3/2 and a 4/3 mm wetsuit for dawnies
- Warm hoodie/fleece for dawn patrols
- Windbreaker or light puffer
- Beanie / cosy socks
- Long trousers/jog and layers
- Heaps of sunscreen / Zinc (UV is strong even in winter)
April – June (Spring)
Sunny warm days, cool nights and consistent waves. Pack for flexibility.
Bring:
- 3/2 mm wetsuit (a 4/3 mm still useful in early April if windy)
- Lightweight sweater and windbreaker
- T-shirts and loose pants/jeans
- Sun hat & sunglasses
- Trainers OR sandals
- High-SPF sunscreen, zinc, after-sun
- Activewear (for yoga/skate/hikes)
July – September (Summer)
(Very) Hot days, mellow waves and surf in bikinis or boardshorts bliss.
Bring:
- 2 mm shorty or just rashie + shorts/swimwear
- Wide-brimmed hat/cap
- Loose cotton clothing (think breezy kaftans & tees)
- Flip flops & trainers
- Reusable bottle & electrolytes
- Mosquito repellent for evenings
- Aloe vera for post-sun rehydration
October – December (Autumn Surf Season)
Peak surf returns, with warm days, crisp evenings and glassy point breaks.
Bring:
- 3/2 mm wetsuit
- Long trousers & layers for night
- Waterproof windbreaker
- Beanie (Nov–Dec)
- High-SPF sunscreen and lip balm
- Travel first aid basics (wax, leash, fin keys)
Essentials to Pack All Year Round
- Surfboard + fins (or rent on arrival)
- Reef-safe sunscreen & zinc
- Travel adaptor (Morocco uses Type C & E plugs)
- Reusable tote (for market runs)
- Travel towel
- Basic meds (rehydration, bites, stomach upsets)
